Lake Lure, NC: Artists from across the region will be showcasing handcrafted art and fine crafts May 23-25, 2015 in the stunning lakeside community of Lake Lure.
This semi-annual community event draws visitors from across the southeast as more than 70 artists display custom works in pottery, sculpture, painting, stained glass, photography, wood carving, and furniture. Fine crafts are a mountain legacy, initially learned by early settlers to supplement their often meager farm incomes. The region has grown into an arts and crafts hub and is home to more than 100 distinguished artisans.
“This was our third year doing the festival and feel it is very professionally run. We received a lot of positive feedback from shoppers,” said artisan Jim Boxerman.
The festival will feature onsite displays, children’s area, live music and fine local food. Most importantly, the event, along with its sister festival in the fall, serves as the major fundraiser for Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach. HNG Outreach is a nonprofit organization that provides pantry and outreach services to low- income families. Being a part of the festival means making the holidays better for many families in need.
Outreach volunteers and Festival organizers since 2013 Kevin and Yvonne Cooley have continued to make improvements and upgrades. “As we gained experience and confidence in this role, we’ve adopted the goal of making each festival “better” than the previous ones,” said Kevin. “We’ve focused on upgrading the quality and variety of fine arts and crafts that are exhibited and sold and on making these festivals fun and entertaining family events by expanding the food court, providing a continuous entertainment program and adding a Kid’s Zone.”
The Lake Lure Arts and Crafts Festival is supported locally by the Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge, The Town of Lake Lure, and the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority.
Festival hours are 10- 6p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 10-4 p.m. on Monday. Festival admission is Free and the event is dog (on a leash) and family friendly. For more information visit www.lakelureartsandcraftsfestivals.com or call Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach at (828) 625-4683.
